Applesauce.
A few days ago, Maia gave me a whole bunch of apples from her trees and I thought it would be a good idea to make some homemade applesauce as both Julia and I like it and it's a great desert for the fall season.
I found the recipe online but I changed it a bit so here goes:
- 3 to 4 lbs of apples (peeled, cored and cut in small pieces)
- 3 Tbsp lemon juice
- a cinnamon stick (I used 2 because I love cinamonn)
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white sugar (if you are using apples that are naturally very sweet, use less sugar. Mine were a little tart and the sugar amount was just right).
- 1 cup of water
- 1 Tsp of salt
Put all the ingredients in a large pan.
Stir and bring to a boil.
Lower heat, cover and simmer for 25 minutes.
Remove from heat. Remove the lemon peels and cinnamon stick.
If you like your applesauce chunky, use a potato masher to mash them, or if you're like me and prefer it to be smooth, use an immersion blender.
It made enough to fill 2 1/2 16 oz jars.
And because I had time, I decided to decorate the jars :-)
Julia thought it was pretty good!
